Common issues

My briefing is missing

We publish a new three-story briefing every morning by 5 AM ET. If you do not see it after 7 AM ET, force-quit and reopen the app.

I purchased Full Citizen but it is not unlocked

Tap "Restore purchases" on the paywall card. If that does not work, force-quit and reopen the app, then tap Restore again. Last resort: email us with your Operative ID and the date of purchase.

My Operative ID changed

Operative IDs are tied to the device fingerprint. If you reinstall the app, you get a new one. The previous ID is permanently retired.

Push notifications are not arriving

  • Confirm push is enabled in your device settings for Being Canadian (iOS: Settings → Notifications; Android: Settings → Apps → Being Canadian → Notifications).
  • Confirm push is enabled in Operative → Settings → Push.
  • We send one push per day around 7 AM your local time. If both toggles are on and today's push has already gone out, the next one arrives tomorrow.

I want to delete my account

You can delete your account and all associated data right in the app: tap the settings (gear) icon, open the Account section, tap "Manage account," then tap "Delete account" and confirm. It takes effect immediately.

Prefer email? Write to [email protected] with your Operative ID and we will purge your record within 30 days.

Deleting your account erases your operative, scores, badges, check-ins, and saved preferences. The only thing we keep is your newsletter consent record, which Canadian anti-spam law (CASL) requires us to retain for three years.

About the satire

This app is parody. We are not affiliated with the Crown, the RCMP, Tim Hortons, the NHL, Hockey Canada, the Privy Council, or any other organization mentioned. If a story crosses a line, email us and we will pull it.

FAQs

Is my data sold to advertisers?
No.
Do you track me across apps?
No.
Is there a web version?
Yes, at app.thenorthernoffice.ca. The iOS and Android apps get push notifications and the workshop tab bar.
Why is everyone called "Operative"?
Because we are running a deeply satirical northern resistance.
